Cut to Black Prize is a small, invitation-only screenwriting competition for writers who value craft and real access. We keep the field tight so every invited script receives a deep, blind read from working producers, writers, and analysts. One champion earns 10,000 USD, a trip to Hollywood, and a scheduled producer meeting.

Why invitation only

A curated field raises the signal and the stakes. Fewer entries means deeper reads, faster decisions, and a clear path from submission to outcome. If you received an invitation, you are in a limited group selected for potential and readiness.

What the winner receives

• 10,000 USD cash
• Round-trip airfare to Los Angeles and hotel lodging
• A scheduled in-person producer meeting
• Industry exposure to working producers and development executives

How it works

• Blind judging in multiple rounds across all genres and formats
• One submission per entrant unless authorized in writing
• Standard PDF script upload with title page only and no identifying information
• Clear timelines for quarterfinalists, semifinalists, finalists, and winner

Entry fee per script

• Early: 100 USD
• Regular: 120 USD
• Late: 130 USD
• Extended: 150 USD
